Carbon Use and Reuse Program

Carbon Use_reuse image

Reliable low-cost electricity provided by U.S. coal-fired power plants is essential for maintaining the Nation’s energy security for future generations. Technology solutions are continuously evolving that can improve the economics, reliability, and efficiency of power generation and protect the environment by reducing emissions. Advanced technologies that enable cost-effective implementation of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) throughout the power generation sector are a major focus of the research and development (R&D) efforts supported by U.S. DOE.

The Carbon Use and Reuse Program promotes R&D that utilizes CO2 to generate value-added products, providing revenue generation to partially offset carbon capture costs from the utility and industrial sectors. The program is identifying and developing flexible and adaptable technologies that can be used to produce a wide range of products from a variety of utilization pathways.
