CO2 Carbon Capture Logo

Join NETL Thursday, March 9, from 10-11 a.m. (ET) for a discussion with a point source carbon capture expert and learn about the regional economic and workforce development opportunities this technology is expected to generate.

The webinar will begin with comments from Anthony Armaly, coordinator of NETL’s Regional Workforce Initiative (RWFI), followed by a presentation by Ron Munson, technology manager, Point Source Carbon Capture, and an economic and workforce development roundtable discussion.

The U.S. Department of Energy/NETL Point Source Carbon Capture Program is developing the next generation of advanced carbon dioxide (CO2) capture concepts to support the Biden Administration’s goals calling for a carbon emission-free electricity sector by 2035 and economy-wide net-zero emissions by 2050.

DOE’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management has adopted a comprehensive, multi-pronged approach for carbon management that involves the coupling of carbon capture methods and carbon dioxide removal technologies with long-duration carbon storage or CO2 utilization/conversion into long-lasting products.

Research and development (R&D) efforts to date have led to reductions in both capital and operating costs through the implementation of energy and process efficiencies and the development of advanced CO2 capture media (solvents, sorbents and membranes). To achieve deep decarbonization, research has focused on developing highly efficient, scalable carbon capture technologies capable of operation under a flexible duty cycle that can achieve greater than 95% carbon capture.

NETL Energy 101 webinars are held to provide a basic primer on the R&D conducted at the Lab. Featured researchers present information in an easy-to-follow format. The webinars also examine the potential economic and workforce development opportunities generated by each topic and the challenges that need to be addressed.

NETL is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory that drives innovation and delivers technological solutions for an environmentally sustainable and prosperous energy future. By leveraging its world-class talent and research facilities, NETL is ensuring affordable, abundant and reliable energy that drives a robust economy and national security, while developing technologies to manage carbon across the full life cycle, enabling environmental sustainability for all Americans.
