SOFC

A 200 kW solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) power plant from Fuel Cell Energy (FCE), which is being partially funded by DOE/NETL, was established at Clearway Energy Center in July 2018 and began operation in April 2019, using solely clean natural gas with a goal to run for at least 5,000 hours to quantify long-term degradation as well as systems availability and reliability.

Cogeneration Plant

In April 2019, Representatives from NETL received the State and Local Economic Development Award at the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) National Awards.

Hazelwood Green

Hazelwood Green, a mixed-use development in Hazelwood on a 178-acre former steel mill riverfront that will operate almost exclusively on renewable-based distributed energy.

NETL and its partners are continuously making progress towards building and restructuring the nine energy districts of the City of Pittsburgh MOU, conducting extensive research for clean energy solutions, and providing support for other projects that utilize the clean, efficient use of fossil energy that advance Pittsburgh into being a “City of the Future”.
