NETL Engineer Organizing Symposium to Advance Turbine Technology
Dennis

Richard Dennis, whose professional accomplishments at NETL span 35 years, is serving as a key organizer and technical review co-chair for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Advanced Manufacturing & Repair for Gas Turbines Symposium, a virtual event to be held event Oct. 5-8, 2021.

Dennis, technology manager for NETL’s Advanced Turbines and Supercritical Carbon Dioxide (sCO2) Power Cycle programs, is track chair for symposium presentations covering the development and use of advanced manufacturing technologies applied to turbine components.

The four-day event will bring together engineers, designers, researchers, repair professionals and business leaders from companies that design, manufacture, repair and own gas turbines to discuss innovative research topics and find best-practice solutions.

Those attending will learn about the latest design strategies for additive-built parts and repair techniques from renowned experts, as well as how advanced manufacturing is changing business models and enhancing business transformation.

Dennis plays a key role in leading the NETL Advanced Turbines Program, which includes a research, development and demonstration (RD&D) portfolio to address environmental concerns by developing revolutionary advanced turbines technologies.

The program also focuses on developing turbine technology with the goal of producing reliable, affordable, diverse and environmentally friendly energy supplies. Emphasis is placed on understanding the underlying factors affecting combustion, aerodynamics/heat transfer, and materials for advanced turbines and turbine-based power cycles.

In 2020, Dennis was named a Fellow in the ASME, a prestigious honor the society awards to members for significant engineering achievements.
