NETL’s STEM professionals bring exciting hands-on, minds-on programs to regional at-risk elementary, middle school, and high school classrooms surrounding the Pittsburgh, PA; Albany, OR; and Morgantown, WV, sites.
K–6 School Visits
These stimulating, hands-on, minds-on STEM activities, demonstrations, and other active learning experiences supplement and enhance schools’ existing STEM curricula, cultivate children’s thinking skills, develop early positive attitudes about STEM topics, and empower children to be STEM learners.
Middle School and High School Visits
At the upper middle and high school levels, when students further develop their interest in STEM and start thinking about careers, NETL researchers visit the classroom to discuss and demonstrate more complex STEM and energy topics and the multiple, dynamic pathways that can lead to STEM careers

NETL participates in career fairs and expos to paint a picture about what the life of scientists, engineers, researchers, and STEM professionals looks like and to share internship opportunities with students.
If you are interested in the NETL K–12 STEM Education and Outreach Team visiting and working with the students in your classroom or at an event, please complete and submit the K–12 STEM Education Outreach Form. Requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority assigned to schools that have a large percentage of students who are considered at-risk or who are typically underserved or underrepresented in STEM careers
