NETL Director to Participate in DOE Carbon Negative Shot Summit Innovation Panel

NETL Director Brian Anderson, Ph.D., will be part of a distinguished panel of experts set to discuss recent innovations related to national decarbonization efforts as part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Carbon Negative Shot Summit set for Wednesday, July 20.

The Summit, which will be held virtually, is part of DOE’s Carbon Negative Shot: an all-hands-on-deck call for innovations that will capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and durably store it. Decarbonization, is a climate-critical activity required to reach the nation's climate goals of net-zero emissions by 2050.

The Carbon Negative Shot Summit will convene industry innovators, environmental and climate justice organizations, tribal nations, labor unions, academia, government leaders, and others to increase collaboration that will advance the deployment of commercially viable, just, and sustainable CO2 removal in the United States.

Anderson will participate in the Summit’s Innovation Panel, which will be moderated by Geri Richmond, Ph.D., DOE’s under secretary of Science and Innovation. Other panel members will include:

  • Andrew Chang, New York managing director, Activate
  • Scott Doney, Ph.D., the Joe D. and Helen J. Kington professor in environmental change at the University of Virginia
  • Dawn Lippert, founder and chief executive officer at the Elemental Excelerator
  • Jennifer Pett-Ridge, Ph.D., senior staff scientist and group leader at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
  • Jigar Shah, director, DOE’s Loans Program Office

“As one of three applied energy labs in the DOE National Laboratory complex, NETL can focus on maturing high-impact technologies,” Anderson said. “We’ve reached a critical point in our planet’s future as we battle the climate crisis. With our world-class talent and facilities, NETL researchers are joining with global efforts to transition to a sustainable energy future while maintaining environmental stewardship and enhancing America’s economy. I am pleased to have the opportunity to discuss those efforts with the panel.”

NETL is a DOE national laboratory that drives innovation and delivers technological solutions for an environmentally sustainable and prosperous energy future.
