The May 2022 edition of the SSAE Newsletter provides updates about recent research initiatives undertaken within NETL’s Strategic Systems Analysis and Engineering (SSAE) directorate.

• An SSAE report that evaluates the impact of proprietary data on machine learning (ML) model performance for geoscience applications.

• The advanced modeling capabilities within SSAE’s Institute for the Design of Advanced Energy Systems (IDAES), that can improve the effectiveness and efficiency of pilot-scale demonstrations, were highlighted in a submission to the Pilot Program Request for Information (RFI) from the National Alliance for Water Innovation (NAWI).

• A pair of articles from SSAE in the March 2022 edition of Frontiers in Climate present a common framework for conducting and reporting on life cycle analysis (LCA) and techno-economic analysis (TEA) of emerging carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technologies.
