NETL Experts Featured at AAPG Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage Conference
The Emerging Field for Energy Professionals Conference will take place from 29-31 March in Houston, Texas.

NETL’s expertise in data analytics and high-performance computing to support a carbon-neutral and sustainable energy future will be highlighted at the American Association of Petroleum Geologists’ Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Conference on March 29-31 in Houston, Texas.

Themed “An Emerging Field for Energy Professionals,” the conference will examine the use of predictive modeling and other technologies to address challenges in subsurface geologic storage of carbon dioxide (CO2), CO2-enhanced hydrocarbon recovery, reservoir monitoring and risk assessment, industry applications and other topics.

The conference begins on Tuesday, March 29, with a keynote address by Emily Grubert, deputy assistant secretary for Carbon Management in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management.

Later in the morning, NETL researchers Foad Haeri, Evgeniy Myshakin, Sean Sanguinito, Johnathan Moore, Dustin Crandall and Angela Goodman will discuss “Numerical Simulations of CO2 Storage Efficiencies for Saline Formations Using Experimental Relative Permeabilities and Petrophysical Devices Derived from Well Logs.”

Other NETL researchers and experts scheduled to take part in other technical sessions are:

· Andrew Bean will participate in the discussion “Geophysical Characterization for CCUS: Case Studies from Onshore/Offshore Regions.”

· Abhash Kumar will participate in the program “Near Wellbore Natural Fracture Mapping Using a New Hybrid Automated Machine Learning Workflow: A Real Field Application in the Marcellus Shale Energy and Environmental Lab.”

· Donald Joseph Remson, David Morgan, Kolawole Bello and Derek Vikara will discuss a “Dimensionally Reduced Model for Rapid and Accurate Prediction of Gas Saturation, Pressure and Brine Production in a CO2 Storage Application: Case Study at the SACROC Field.”

· Priya Ravi Ganesh, Sanjay Mawalkar, Jared Schuetter, Mike Riedl, Sajay Tamrakar and Srikanta Mishra will present “Predictive Analysis of Pressure and Temperature in Carbonate Reservoirs.”

· Mark McKoy will participate in a discussion titled “The Carbon Storage Assurance Facility Enterprise (CarbonSAFE) Initiative: Enabling a Nascent Industry to Meet U.S. Decarbonization Targets.”
