Read the latest edition of the Carbon Capture Newsletter to learn about recent developments in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)/NETL Carbon Capture Program.

The Carbon Capture Program is developing the next generation of advanced carbon dioxide (CO2) capture technologies that can provide step-change reductions in both cost and energy requirements over currently available technologies.

The Carbon Capture Program focuses on a broad portfolio of projects, including post- and pre-combustion capture to reduce carbon emissions from fossil fuel-based power generation and industrial sources. The program is also developing a wide array of approaches to remove CO2 that has accumulated in the atmosphere, such as direct air capture with durable storage, biomass carbon removal and storage, and enhanced mineralization.

Information in this month’s edition includes:

  • A summary of the updated DOE Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management mission statement, including a discussion of the technology development priorities.  FECM’s programs use research, development, demonstration, and deployment approaches to advance technologies to reduce carbon emissions and other environmental impacts of fossil fuel production and use.
  • An announcement about the launch of the DOE Clean Energy Corps, which is preparing to recruit an additional 1,000 employees using special hiring authority included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) to help implement BIL’s historic infusion of funding and accelerate the nation’s drive to a clean energy future.
  • Links to upcoming conferences and events to advance the deployment of specific clean energy technologies and solutions.
  • Business and industry news highlights, including a project to use CO2 from a coal-fired power plant to cultivate algae for animal feeds and a collaboration with Habitat for Humanity to build a home with cement injected with CO2 captured from flue gas streams.
