Check out the latest edition of the Carbon Capture Newsletter to learn about recent developments in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)/NETL Carbon Capture Program.

The DOE/NETL Carbon Capture Program is developing the next generation of advanced carbon dioxide (CO2) capture technologies that can provide step-change reductions in both cost and energy requirements as compared to currently available technologies.

The Carbon Capture Program focuses on the broad portfolio of projects, including post- and pre-combustion capture to reduce carbon emissions from fossil fuel-based power generation and industrial sources. The Program is also developing a wide array of approaches to remove CO2 that has accumulated in the atmosphere, such as direct air capture with durable storage, biomass carbon removal and storage, and enhanced mineralization.

Information in this month’s edition includes:

  • An announcement that DOE is seeking information on deployment-ready carbon reduction and removal technologies. The Request for Information seeks feedback on direct air capture, point source carbon capture, geologic storage and more.
  • An interagency update on carbon management initiatives discussed at the United Nations Climate Change Conference. Another update focuses on a plan to fund efforts by four national public power associations to help increase regional and state-level engagement in DOE’s emerging carbon management work.
  • Business and industry updates highlighting work by Southern California Gas to develop technology to capture CO2 from the air while simultaneously collecting water. An additional update explores an NETL partnership with the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center to determine the feasibility for the first commercial-scale direct air capture (DAC) and storage system (DAC+S) for CO2 removal in the U.S.
  • Links to recently published journal articles and announcements about upcoming U.S. and international events that will focus on various carbon capture issues and technologies.
