Learn about the latest developments in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)/NETL Carbon Capture Program in this month’s edition of the Carbon Capture Newsletter.

The DOE/NETL Carbon Capture Program is developing the next generation of advanced carbon dioxide (CO2) capture technologies that can provide step-change reductions in both cost and energy requirements as compared to currently available technologies.

The Carbon Capture Program focuses on the broad portfolio of projects, including post- and pre-combustion capture to reduce carbon emissions across a wide spectrum of industries. Other focus areas include carbon-based power generation and negative emissions technologies such as direct capture of CO2 from the atmosphere and bioenergy with carbon capture.

Information in this month’s edition includes:

  • An announcement detailing the launch of the Net-Zero World Initiative — a U.S.-led partnership with several countries to accelerate transitions to net-zero, resilient and inclusive energy systems. Through this initiative, DOE will mobilize state-of-art technology and expertise from its national laboratories to advance global decarbonization.
  • Interagency news on priority topics, including updates on the Carbon-Negative Shot, an all-hands-on-deck call for innovation in the expanding field of CO2 removal, and plans to hold the 2022 Clean Energy Ministerial and the ministerial for Mission Innovation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in September.
  • Business and industry news updates, featuring a report on the successful completion of a six-month testing campaign for a third-generation solvent technology (ICE-31) at the National Carbon Capture Center in Wilsonville, Alabama.
  • Links to recently published journal articles and announcements about upcoming U.S. and international events that will focus on various carbon capture issues and technologies.
