December Edition of the SSAE Newsletter Released
SSAE Newsletter

The December 2021 edition of the SSAE Newsletter provides updates about recent research initiatives undertaken within NETL’s Strategic Systems Analysis and Engineering (SSAE) directorate.

Click here to access this latest edition and learn about activities that SSAE is leading to gain insights into new energy concepts, support the analysis of energy system interactions and advance its capabilities.

Highlights in this edition include:

  • A study co-authorized by Ray Boswell of the Energy Systems Analysis Team outlines the use of a new approach that estimated resources in the Marcellus and Utica shale plays. Resource totals cited in the study exceed many recent estimates
  • After one year of development, ProteusLib, a water treatment model library compatible with the NETL Institute for the Design of Advanced Energy Systems platform, has successfully advanced early-stage water treatment technology.
  • NETL’s Research & Innovation Center has worked extensively with academic and industrial partners to evaluate the resource potential for critical mineral/rare earth element (REE) production in Wyoming. The research has led to the discovery of REE “hot spots” within Wyoming coal seams.

In addition, the newsletter provides a list of upcoming conferences, meetings and events at which SSAE researchers will present findings, as well as highlights from recent presentations.
