October Edition of the SSAE Newsletter Released

The October 2021 edition of the SSAE Newsletter provides updates about recent research initiatives undertaken within NETL’s Strategic Systems Analysis and Engineering (SSAE) directorate.

Click here to access this month’s newsletter and learn about activities that SSAE is leading to gain insights into new energy concepts, support the analysis of energy system interactions and advance its capabilities.

This month’s edition highlights include:

  • Members of the SSAE’s Energy Systems Analysis Team will provide technical expertise to advance the Intermountain West Energy Sustainability & Transitions (I-WEST) Initiative. I-WEST aims to explore a regional strategy for transitioning the intermountain western U.S. (Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming) to a carbon-neutral energy economy.
  • SSAE continues to play an active role in the Science-informed Machine Learning for Accelerating Real-Time Decisions in Subsurface Applications (SMART) Initiative. Work has included the development of fast and accurate deep learning 2D and 3D models for simulating carbon dioxide (CO2) saturation, plume pressure and production rates for CO2 storage and brine production.
  • Several SSAE researchers presented at the 2021 American Center for Life Cycle Assessment Virtual Conference. Learn about the topics they covered.

In addition, the newsletter provides a list of upcoming conferences, meetings and events at which SSAE researchers will present findings.
