As shallow onshore and shallow-water offshore wells become depleted, the industry is forced to explore in more hostile environments to supply the world’s energy requirements. Deep wells have associated with them higher pressures and temperatures, which induce more stresses on the downhole equipment and materials, including the cement sheath.
