The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced up to $26 million in federally funded financial assistance for cost-shared research and development projects under the Office of Fossil Energy’s (FE) Novel and Enabling Carbon Capture Transformational Technologies funding opportunity announcement (FOA).
Air Products
A large-scale carbon dioxide (CO2) capture technology made possible through support from the Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and National Energy Technology Laboratory has captured and transported its 4-millionth metric ton of CO2. Air Products and Chemicals designed, built, and is operating the state-of-the-art CO2-capture and storage system at their hydrogen-production facility located at the Valero Port Arthur Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry has announced approximately $36 million in federally-funded financial assistance to advance carbon capture technologies. Under the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office Of Fossil Energy (FE), the Design and Testing of Advanced Carbon Capture Technologies funding opportunity announcement (FOA) will support cost-shared research and development projects that will continue the development of carbon capture technologies to either the engineering scale or to a commercial design.

The Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) officially opened their Illinois Industrial Carbon Capture and Storage (ICCS) project during a ceremony today at the National Sequestration Education Center at Richland Community College in Decatur, Illinois.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy (FE) and National Energy Technology Laboratory today announced up to a $12.3 million for a new funding opportunity to advance crosscutting research that enhances fossil energy power system efficiency.  As part of FE’s Crosscutting Research Program, research and development efforts are intended to create cost-effective progress toward achieving benefits for electric generating units and industrial plants that use fossil fuel. The five focus areas are as follows:

Secretary of Energy Rick Perry took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to mark the opening of Petra Nova, the world’s largest post-combustion carbon capture project, which was completed on-schedule and on-budget. The large-scale demonstration project, located at the W.A. Parish power plant in Thompsons, Texas, is a joint venture between NRG Energy (NRG) and JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation (JX).

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced today that the Illinois Industrial Carbon Capture and Storage (ICCS) project in Decatur, Illinois, has begun operation by injecting carbon dioxide (CO2) into a large saline reservoir.  This project received a $141 million investment from DOE, matched by over $66 million in private-sector cost share.
