Gasification Systems
2013 Gasification Systems Project Portfolio
| Gasification is a clean way to efficiently produce electric power, a wide range of transportation fuels, and chemicals from coal and other solid feedstocks. By first converting the solid feedstock to a gaseous form (syngas), potential pollutants can be captured and reduced to any desired level and then converted to useful by-products or safely disposed. The Gasification Systems Program is developing advanced technologies to improve the economics and performance of producing syngas. |
Gasification Systems Portfolio
The Gasification Systems Project Portfolio provides an overview of the Gasification Systems Program, including a description of key technology areas, information on projects, location map, and contact information for personnel supporting the Gasification Systems Program.
- Gasification Systems Program
The Gasification Systems research and development (R&D) approach is organized in the three key areas: Feed Systems, Gasifier Optimization and Plant Supporting Systems, and Syngas Processing Systems.
- Feed Systems R&D Area - focuses on reducing the cost and increasing the efficiency, through design and advanced plant integration, of fuel and oxygen feed to commercial gasifiers;
- Gasifier Optimization and Plant Supporting Systems R&D Area - focuses on increasing gasifier availability and efficiency, improving performance, and reducing the capital and operating costs of advanced gasification plants;
- Syngas Processing Systems R&D Area - focuses on developing technologies for syngas cleanup and gas separation that can be efficiently integrated into the plant, optimized with the temperature and pressure requirements of other systems, meet product delivery specifications, and meet or exceed environmental emissions standards.
