The objective of this project is to develop a low-cost method for producing high strength, creep resistant oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) ferritic steel mill product for high-temperature applications. This project will test a new one step friction stir processing based powder metallurgy process to produce ODS alloys.
This project will examine the feasibility of low cost fabrication of ODS materials. Improvement to high-temperature advanced materials will promote the development of advanced power plant designs that can operate at higher temperatures and pressures with improvements in operational flexibility, leading to lower capital and operating costs, more efficient use of fossil fuels, and reduced carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions.
