The AVESTAR Center is conducting research to accelerate progress toward achieving operational excellence for power generation plants connected to an electric grid with increased renewable energy deployment. The AVESTAR Center will integrate high-fidelity, real-time power plant simulators for conventional fossil and variable renewable generators with grid simulators to offer virtual power plants (VPP) that can be exploited in research on dynamics, control, and decision-making to optimize smart grid operations and stability. The AVESTAR Center will also provide a realistic, hands-on, dynamic simulation-based environment for training operators, engineers, researchers, and students on VPP operations for accelerated renewable energy deployment.
